Quick Start Guide
What is Hue?
Hue is your personal AI assistant that helps you discover insights from your digital life. By connecting your everyday data sources—messages, notes, reading history, and more—Hue creates a unified view of your information and helps you understand patterns, find connections, and answer questions about your own data.
Think of Hue as a smart search engine for your personal data, combined with an AI that understands context and can generate insights on demand.
Key Features
- Smart Search: Ask questions in natural language about any of your connected data
- Personal Insights: Get AI-generated analysis and visualizations of your patterns
- Unified Timeline: See all your data in one chronological view
- AI Bio: Read an AI-generated profile based on your digital footprint
- Privacy-First: Your data is encrypted and never used to train AI models

4. Explore Your Data
Once your first source is connected:
Ask Questions
Navigate to the Feed tab and try queries like:

- "What topics appear most in my notes?"
- "Summarize my week"
View Your Timeline
- Switch to Timeline view to see chronological activity
- Filter by source type or date range
- Click any item for details
Check Your Bio
- Visit the Bio tab to see your AI-generated profile
- This updates as you add more data sources
Generate Graphs & Analysis
- Use the Analysis tab to visualize your data patterns
- Create timeline graphs of your activity, mood, and topics
- Export charts and insights for sharing or personal tracking
Tips for Best Results
Start Small
- Connect one source first
- Get familiar with the interface
- Add more sources gradually
Ask Better Questions
- Be specific: "What did I discuss with John last month?" vs "Show me messages"
- Use time frames: "Notes from this week about project X"
- Try different phrasings if you don't get expected results
Privacy Controls
- Disconnect sources anytime in Settings
- Export your data whenever you want
Common Issues
"Permission Denied" Errors
- Open System Preferences → Security & Privacy
- Grant Hue the requested permissions
- Restart Hue after granting permissions
Slow Performance
- Initial syncs are slower than updates
- Large message histories take more time
- Let Hue run in background for best performance
- LLM providers sometimes fail. When you see an error, try again
Missing Data
- Check source is still connected
- Verify permissions haven't been revoked
- Try manual sync from menu bar
Next Steps
Now that you're set up:
- Connect More Sources: The more data, the better insights
- Ask Complex Questions: Try multi-source queries
- Review Your Bio: See how it evolves with more data
- Share Insights: Export interesting findings

Privacy Policy
Last updated: Feb 12 2026
1. Who we are
Hue is a product of Strange Intelligence, Inc. ("we", "our", "us"). Hue is a web and desktop application helping you generate personal insights from the data you choose to connect.
2. The data we collect
| Category | Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Connected sources (raw content) | Apple Notes, iMessages, Gmail messages (subject, sender, date, body content), Substack posts (via public RSS), uploaded files, chat histories (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) | To run queries & create insights you request |
| Derived data | Embeddings, vector indexes, summaries, charts | To power fast search & insight generation |
| Account & device info | Email, name/alias, OS details, log files, cookies | To operate the service, secure accounts, diagnose issues |
| Usage metrics (optional) | Page views, feature clicks | Product analytics & improvement (non‑identifiable where possible) |
No sale of data. No ads. We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties.
2.1 Gmail data
When you connect your Google account, we request read-only access to your Gmail messages (gmail.readonly scope). We request only the minimum necessary Gmail scope (gmail.readonly) to provide Hue's email-related features and do not request broader Gmail permissions. We:
- Only read email content—we cannot send, delete, or modify your emails
- Process emails on-demand to generate insights you request
- Store OAuth tokens securely; tokens are encrypted at rest
- Never share raw email content with third parties except our LLM providers under strict data processing agreements
You can revoke Gmail access anytime at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions
2.2 Google API Services Limited Use Disclosure
Hue's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We only use Gmail data to provide features that directly benefit you, such as search, summarization, and insight generation.
- We do not use Gmail data for advertising, marketing, or any form of user profiling not requested by you.
- We do not sell or share Gmail data with third parties, except essential service providers operating under strict data-processing agreements (e.g., LLM providers).
- We do not allow humans to read Gmail data, unless:
- you give us explicit permission,
- access is required for security (e.g., abuse detection), or
- access is required to comply with applicable law.
- We do not transfer Gmail data to external applications unless necessary to provide the service and disclosed in this policy.
- When you disconnect Gmail or delete your Hue account, we delete Gmail-derived raw content and associated embeddings/indexes from our active systems within a reasonable time period and stop using them in any features. We do not retain Gmail data in backups longer than necessary to meet legal and security obligations.
- We do not use Gmail data to train or improve generalized machine-learning or AI models, including models used for other Hue users. If we ever adapt a model using your Gmail data, it will only be to provide features for your account and only as permitted by Google's Limited Use requirements.
3. How we use your data
- Provide core features (answer your questions, generate graphs, etc.).
- Maintain & improve the product (bug fixes, UX research). For Gmail and other data received from Google APIs, any improvement work uses only aggregated or anonymized data and always complies with Google's Limited Use requirements (for example, analyzing error rates or performance metrics, not individual message content).
- Communicate with you about updates, beta feedback, or security notices.
- Comply with legal obligations and defend our rights.
4. Where data is stored & processed
- Primary storage: encrypted Postgres databases for raw content; separate vector store for embeddings.
- AI processing: OpenAI and/or other LLM providers under strict DPAs.
- Restricted, audited employee access; TLS in transit & AES‑256 at rest.
Gmail data is stored and processed under the same encryption and security controls described above.
5. Your controls
| Control | What happens |
|---|---|
| Disconnect a source | We purge the corresponding raw records & embeddings right away. |
| Delete account | All raw data, embeddings, and account credentials are erased. Aggregated analytics & previously generated insights may be retained (they are no longer linked to you). |
| Export data | Email privacy@tryhue.app for a JSON export. |
6. Data retention
- Raw data: until you delete it or close your account.
- Derived embeddings: same.
- Logs & analytics: up to 12 months.
- Legal/compliance backups: required lengths to meet legal obligations.
7. International transfers
We're US‑based; if you live elsewhere your data may move to the US. We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
8. Children
Hue is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account and promptly delete all associated data. If you believe a minor is using Hue, please contact us at privacy@tryhue.app.
9. Changes to this policy
We'll post the new version here and email beta users at least 7 days before substantive changes.

By creating an account or using Hue (web or desktop), you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, do not use the Service.
2. The Service (Beta)
Hue ingests user‑provided data sources, stores them securely, and returns AI‑generated insights. Features may change, break, or disappear without notice during beta.
3. Your responsibilities
- Data rights: You confirm you have the legal right to upload or link each data source.
- Lawful use: No illegal, infringing, or harmful content.
- Account security: Keep login credentials confidential; notify us of any breach.
- Eligibility: You may use Hue only if you are at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract with us, and only in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws. By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years of age. If we discover that a user is under 18, we reserve the right to immediately terminate their account and delete all associated data. We are not responsible for any harm arising from a minor's unauthorized use of the Service.
4. License you grant us
Solely so we can operate and improve Hue, you grant us a non‑exclusive, worldwide, revocable license to store, process, and transform the data you submit. This ends when you delete the data or your account. Where our access to your data is governed by third-party platform policies (such as Google's API Services User Data Policy), our rights under this license are limited by those policies.
5. Intellectual property
- We own the Hue platform, branding, and underlying models.
- Generated insights: You own the outputs for personal use, subject to third‑party rights in your original content.
- Output limitations: You understand that outputs may not be unique and may be similar to outputs provided to other users. We do not guarantee that outputs will not infringe third-party rights, and you are responsible for how you use them.
6. Fees & subscription
Hue is currently free during the alpha period. In the future, we may introduce paid subscription plans such as:
- Monthly: $12/month for unlimited queries with premium model, unlimited source connections, and priority support
- Annual: $120/year for unlimited queries with premium model, unlimited source connections, and priority support
These tiers are illustrative and subject to change. We will notify you before any paid plans take effect.
7. Third-party services
Hue relies on third-party providers (such as cloud hosting, authentication providers, and AI model providers) to operate the Service. Their services may be subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for downtime or issues caused by third-party services, but we will make reasonable efforts to mitigate disruptions.
8. Disclaimers
- Service is provided "as is" and "as available."
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
- We don't guarantee insights are correct, complete, or fit for any purpose.
- Hue is intended for informational purposes only. You should not rely on the Service for medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice, and any actions you take based on the outputs are at your own risk.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.
- Minors and AI‑generated content: Hue is intended for use by adults (18+) only. AI‑generated outputs are not reviewed or filtered for age‑appropriateness. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all liability for harm resulting from a minor's use of the Service, including any actions taken based on AI‑generated outputs.
9. Termination
You may stop using Hue and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms with reasonable notice (immediate for egregious abuse).
10. Modifications to Terms
We'll notify you (email or in‑app) at least 7 days before material changes. Continued use after that effective date constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing law & dispute resolution
11.1 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, excluding its conflict‑of‑law rules.
11.2 Informal resolution first
Before filing any formal proceeding, you agree to contact us at legal@tryhue.app describing the dispute. Both parties will attempt to resolve the dispute through good‑faith negotiation for at least 30 days from the date the notice is received.
11.3 Mandatory binding arbitration
If the dispute is not resolved informally, you and Strange Intelligence agree to resolve it through final and binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will be conducted on an individual basis only—not as a class, consolidated, or representative action. The arbitration may be conducted in the State of Delaware or remotely, at the claimant's option.
11.4 Small claims exception
Either party may bring an individual action in small claims court if the claim qualifies under that court's rules.
11.5 Class action waiver
You and Strange Intelligence each waive the right to participate in a class action, class‑wide arbitration, or any other representative proceeding, whether as a plaintiff or class member.
11.6 30‑day opt‑out
You may opt out of the arbitration and class action waiver provisions in this Section 11 by emailing legal@tryhue.app within 30 days of creating your account. Your opt‑out notice must include your name, email address, and a clear statement that you decline arbitration.
